The ongoing efforts in improving the GPS error budget as well as the development on the GPS hardware side layed the foundations for the establishment of a permanent GPS network covering the whole area of Germany, which is called SAPOS®. This service enables the field surveyors to determine their position within a few centimeters in real time, using one dual frequency GPS (phase) receiver, which is able to receive the SAPOS® correction values e.g. via GSM.
When calculating the SAPOS® correction signals, one major error source is due to so-called site-specific effects. Within the framework of this diploma thesis the two most important site-specific error sources should be investigated: on the one hand side multipath effects and on the other hand side antenna calibration effects.
The Geodetic Institute of the University of Karlsruhe (GIK) owns two different software programs (TEQC, WaSoft/Multipath) to obtain statements concerning the magnitude of multipath effects in GPS data.
At the Black Forest Observatory (BFO) there exists one provisional permanent GPS site, which is assumed to be under strong influence of multipath. The candidate should checked whether a second simultaneously operating GPS site should be preferred in the future.
On the pillars situated on the GIK observation platform a GPS antenna calibration field is planned to be established in cooperation with the Ordnance Survey of Baden-Württemberg. Therefore recommendations with respect to the multipath situation were made based on a planned GPS campaign.
