InSARThe main focus of this project is a reliable estimation of current displacement rates and spatial distribution of the unusual surface displacement in the urban area of Staufen (Breisgau, Germany). We will approach a joint displacement estimation by including ground truth data from leveling campaigns and corner reflectors in the PS-InSAR analysis. Recently geothermal projects are on rise in the Upper Rhine Graben area mostly within or in close vicinity to urban areas with hardly predictable implications of drilling, stimulation and most of all reservoir exploration. This study will be one among others demonstrating the potential, achievable accuracy and limits of PS-InSAR displacement estimation for monitoring purposes.

We aspire an integrated interpretation of leveling and InSAR data with two main goals:

(i) Leveling as well as interferometric observations yield one dimensional displacement information observed in different spatial directions. The combination of leveling with InSAR observations offers the possibility to estimate the full displacement vector.

(ii) Instead of precise sparse leveling data and dense but less precise InSAR derived displacment maps, the integration of both data sets will enable maps of surface displacements with enhanced spatial resolution and reliability.
